John Killea Chief Legal Officer, Stewart Information Services Corporation (SISCO); General Counsel, Stewart Title Guaranty Company

With more than 30 years of legal experience, Killea was appointed general counsel of STGC in 2008. Killea began his Stewart career in 2000 as counsel in the claims and agency underwriting areas for Stewart Title Insurance Company (STIC), New York. Later, he served as chief claims counsel for STIC and serves currently as its general counsel a position he has held since 2005.

In April 2012, Killea was appointed chief legal officer of SISCO. In his various roles, Killea oversees the underwriting, claims, litigation and compliance areas of all Stewart entities.

Killea has been active in underwriting high-liability multistate, multi-site commercial transactions, including renewable energy projects and large scale development projects; has overseen Stewart’s Market Conduct Examination team, coordinating with various State Departments of Insurance; has coordinated complex litigation strategy affecting Stewart nationwide and internationally; and has overseen its Claims Management team in developing strategy for its most demanding claims both within and outside the U.S.

Killea is a frequent lecturer on the subjects of mitigating litigation and claims risk.

Killea holds a B.A. cum laude from Lafayette College and a J.D. from Fordham University School of Law. He is a member of the New York State Bar Association and has been admitted to practice in the state of New York, as well as United States District Court for both the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York.
