Houston, Texas (January 14, 2014) – Stewart announced today that Malcolm A. Meyer has joined the Southwest Region underwriting office as Louisiana underwriting counsel. Meyer has represented Stewart for more than 10 years, answering underwriting questions for Stewart’s independent title agency and attorney customers in Louisiana.
"We are fortunate to provide our agencies and attorneys in Louisiana with the services of one of the state's pre-eminent real estate lawyers," says John Rothermel, senior underwriter and southwest regional counsel. "Malcolm brings great knowledge and enthusiasm to his role, and we are pleased to have him as underwriting counsel.” Meyer retired from the Adams and Reese law firm in New Orleans, where he specialized in real estate transactions and title insurance. He was previously an adjunct professor at Tulane Law School, teaching courses on Louisiana real estate transactions and legal ethics. Meyer also served in the U.S. Navy as a Lieutenant in the Judge Advocate General (JAG) Corps for four years in the Philippines.
A frequent speaker on real estate and insurance issues, Malcolm A. Meyer is the author of Meyer's Manual on Louisiana Real Estate, a book considered the authoritative reference on Louisiana real estate law. From 1990 to 2002, he served as the Louisiana State Bar Association title standards committee chair, with an essential role in drafting the state's first title standards.
