The San Antonio firm recently completed a project to tag, index and verify 420,000 Brazoria County real property documents dating from Mexican sovereignty to 1964. The documents soon will join marriage licenses and birth and death certificate indexes on the county clerk's Web site.

HOUSTON (Feb. 28, 2006) - Landata Technologies Inc. has completed a project to tag, index and verify approximately 420,000 Brazoria County real property documents dating from 1824 to 1964.

The documents include 810,578 total pages, of which approximately 110,000 are handwritten pages and 700,578 are typed pages. The documents including deeds, deeds of trust and other related documents will be available online to the public.

"We are so pleased to have these real property documents preserved and available for parties such as attorneys and abstractors to access via the Web," said the Honorable Joyce Hudman, Brazoria County Clerk. "These documents now join the marriage license indexes and images, and birth and death certificate indexes available via http://www.brazoria.tx.us.landata.com/."

Landata Technologies handled imaging and indexing of the 85,869 Brazoria County marriage license documents dating back to the 1900s. In addition, 84,181 birth certificate documents consisting of 144,577 pages were scanned and archival images and indexes were created, as were 37,234 death certificate documents consisting of 53,648 pages - both dating back to 1929.

Due to confidential nature of birth and death certificates, these documents are limited online to index information only. An individual with the proper ID may obtain a copy of a birth or death certificate in person at the Brazoria County Clerk's office.

"We are making it easier via the Internet for the public to access public records - such as individuals researching their family history," said Hudman. "At the same time, we are very cognizant that individuals do not want personal information to fall into the wrong hands. We have built in safeguards that are allowed by law to protect our citizens."

Alan Cellura, president of Landata Technologies said, "Brazoria County is one of an elite number of government jurisdictions nationwide who have taken this step to both protect their historical records and make them available to the public. For a county that prides its history going back to Stephen F. Austin and the Old Three Hundred, this is a responsible public policy."
